Allergy sittings offered to people who have gone through the process of joining the waiting list
We offer allergy sittings with our cats. Our cats live with us at home, therefore, you will be exposed to the environment that is appropriate for an effective and reliable allergy testing.
Siberian cats are very often suitable for people with cat allergies. However, no breed of cat is completely hypoallergenic. Compared to other breeds, Siberians can produce lower levels of the Fel d 1 protein that is a strong allergen. This characteristic applies only to pure Siberian Forest Cat, not Neva Masquerades who are the result of cross breeding between Siamese and Siberians.
The Fel d 1 protein allergen is extremely potent. Secretions from the glands of the skin are the primary source of FEL D1, but it is also deposited on the fur through the saliva when the cat cleans itself. Fel d1 becomes airborne during grooming. It can stick to fur, carpet, walls, blankets, etc. The allergen can remain in a home for six months after removal of the cat.
Fur length does not increase or decrease the amount of allergen produced by salivary and sebaceous glands, thus evenly hairless cats can be highly allergenic.
Siberians that are spayed or neutered have lower Fel d1 levels than if they were not spayed or neutered.

There are two ways to test cats for their Fel d1 levels – by saliva sampling or fur sampling. Each test has its own set of values.

It is recommended to have an allergy sitting with your kitten of choice and at least one parent since kittens may not have begun producing as much Fel d1 as they will when they are older.
